Meet the Founder

Cheyenne, Derrick and Harper Luster
Without God, nothing is possible!

My name is Cheyenne Luster, my husband, Derrick, and I have a four-year-old daughter, Harper. As a family, we love spending time together, especially at the lake. I’m always drawn to the outdoors and have a deep love for learning new things.

I graduated from Brookland Public School in 2011, earned my degree from ASTATE, and jumped straight into my teaching career. For the past three years, I’ve worked in the Alternative Learning Classroom at Nettleton Public School. I worked with K-6 students with a focus on math and literacy. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with students of all backgrounds, personalities, and learning styles. My heart has always been with those who need extra support, love, and care.

At some point, I realized that the way I loved to teach didn’t quite fit within the structure of a traditional school system. That realization led to something bigger—the idea of opening a microschool. A place where students can thrive through mastery-based, hands-on, project-driven, and self-paced learning. In this space, students aren’t locked into grade levels based on age; instead, they move at their own unique pace, in the way that works best for them—even if that means never picking up a pencil. Allowing students to enjoy learning and making it creative while they are learning.

The vision for Bright Learners Academy Microschool was born out of a need for a more personalized learning experience. The term "micro-school" refers to a unique educational setup, reminiscent of a one-room schoolhouse, where homeschooling and private schooling merge to create a rich, authentic experience. At Bright Learners Academy, students benefit from much more individualized attention than in traditional school environments. We believe this approach is crucial as many families are seeking a nurturing, tailored environment where their children can thrive academically and emotionally. Additionally, our school will offer hands-on learning through a school farm and garden, giving students the opportunity to interact directly with farm animals and nature. We understand that children often retain knowledge more effectively when they learn by doing, rather than simply reading from a textbook.

This school is truly a testament to God's provision, as His Word promises in Philippians 4:19: "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Through faith in him and prayers, I have been incredibly blessed to help shape and improve this school in the best way I believe it should be. This explains my picture above because without him, nothing is possible.
